Aztec Dance, La Danza Azteca, Mi’totiliztli in the nahuatl language , is a large part of the cultural heritage of the original inhabitants of central Mexico. This dance covers thousands years of experiences of skilful farmers and determined warriors. It is a dance with an emotional history.
In the dance are conserved the lost treasures of the miraculous history of an ancient Aztec civilisation largely destroyed by the Spanish.
For the Aztecs, dance represented basic spiritual expression and it was a tool for communicating with energies, shaping the lives of the people, regulating the earth's natural cycles. The inner meaning of dance was induction and the renewal of the harmonious relationship between man and the world of which he was part.
Rhythms and songs that carry dancers on a wave of deep collective enjoyment are of very old origin. In Aztec music and dance there are mathematical and cosmological patterns whose diversions into acoustic and kinetic form have noticeable beneficial, euphoric and healing effects. The connection of music and movement represents a specific type of ritual art and simultaneously a spiritual-physical discipline. The physical aspect of Aztec dance has effects on its practitioners similar to eastern practices such as yoga and tai-chi.
Along with this it also includes clearly magical level, empowered by the large number of people dancing collectively . Old Aztec were trying by their dance to affect the existence of the world, which they were thanks to their huge knowledge of astronomy not considering as everlasting and stabile. No one sunrise was for them obvious occasion. Dance is also representing a sacrificial donation, devoted to cosmic powers. Dancer is by moving releasing and handing over to gods part of his power as an acknowledgment for gift of life and prayer for its lasting.
For Aztecs destiny did not represent fixed value. They knew that the powers moving space is sometimes possible to get on our side. Most likely even our world, as everything vital, is getting ready for its unavoidable doom, but chance when this will happen is still open...
This is the reason why message of sacred dance is so actual. Those who will integrate their steps, can manage unify and harmonise even the pulse of their hearts, emotions, visions, desires and even actions... In times of frantic chase for self-enforcement is dance true gift and aslo one of the possibilities how to tie up real contact with our fellowman.
May perhaps, when we will be able to look inside, that in reality we are one, single one being, one single soul, we will not continue in the destruction of our the world and absurd self-destruction actions. And the precious gift of life will be able to stay preserved.
Lets try to recall to mind accordingly. Because not only initiations of ancient Mexico, but also our ancestors knew these matters between sky and earth. We all knew them and we know them still, they are hidden deeply in our core. Lets dance together in ancient rhythm. Skilful steps of dancers are going to lead us to the destination. Lets not doubt, lets dance.
